My beautiful Sosua! I love it! I had been coming to the Dominican Republic every year for 20 years to get away from the snow in Canada before I discovered Sosua and came to live here. I had a wellness center in Niagara Falls, Canada, for seven years and the cold weather was really getting to me, even though people loved learning in such a spectacular place! I sold up and bought a great one-bedroom apartment in Sosua. Six weeks later in January 2022 I came across my dream property near Alicia Beach and renovated it over the next six months. Sosua Dreams, my gorgeous 5 plex in the heart of Sosua on the North Coast of the Dominican Republic, can be utilised as a wellness/teaching center, or for guests through Airbnb etc.Sosúa is a relatively small, picturesque town in the province of Puerto Plata. It’s only a ten-minute taxi ride east from Puerto Plata(POP). Opened in 1979, Gregorio Luperón International Airport is one of the most important in the country and operates with international destinations to the United States, Canada, the Caribbean, and Europe.
Sosua became a tourist town in the mid-1980s when all-inclusive tourism started on the island, and it is small enough to be easily walked around. The main street,Pedro Clisante, is lined with bars, restaurants, and some charming shops. You’ll see random chickens in the street, and an occasional cow or horse in the field alongside the road. It is by far the friendliest place I have ever lived. The locals are cheerful and open and will always return an “Hola!” with a smile and a return greeting. There are great supermarkets (Superpola and Playero) and you can get just about anything you want here. Electrical goods are pricey, but the cost of living is low.
You can meet plenty of expats at The Jolly Roger pubor Mike’s bar, where karaoke evenings and bingo games are a popular way to make friends. You can take a moto taxi to anywhere in Sosua for 50 pesos (about one US $) during the day and 100 pesos at night. Taxis are not frequent, and you need to be careful to get one that has a meter or negotiate before you get in so that you are not overcharged.
Sosua is known for its two beautiful beaches: Playa Sosua and Playa Alicia. Playa Sosua is a around a kilometer long and is colorful, lively, and fun. Great for swimming, the calm cove is surrounded by a coral reef that lies around 100 feet away from the shore, where tropical fish abound. Most water sports are available, especially snorkelling and diving.Numerous restaurants and bars line the back of the beach (more chicks and chickens thrive there) and the short walk to the beach is through a colorful marketplace, where you can collect souvenirs and artwork, as well as having a massage for 1000 pesos (less than $20 US), or a pedicure and a manicure for even less. Expect to hear music! And lots of it! The Dominicans are a friendly, happy people who love to sing and dance.
If you want a more peaceful and quieter beach, beautiful Playa Alicia is smaller and more select, and you can watch beautiful sunsets from either of the two restaurants (one at each end of the beach): Waterfront and Steven’s.Both restaurants have a great selection of food (Thai, seafood, and local dishes) to please all palates.
Sosua Dreams is a wonderful, adults only, 5 plex in the heart of Sosua; a ten-minute walk away from Sosua beach and only a five minute walk from Playa Alicia. It is far enough away from the hustle and bustle of the main drag, but close enough to walk to everywhere, or you can simply take a local moto taxi. You’ll feel like you are in paradise with the tropical palm trees and refreshing swimming pool. We have a ground floor,two-bedroom apartment (sleeps up to 6) with four one bed apartments (they sleep 3 or 4) above the two-bed apartment, all available for short term rentals. Or if you wish to organize a wellness retreat or bring a group to rent all 5 apartments, we can arrange a special price for you. As a wellness or teaching center you can fit in up to 20 students and teach from the two-bed apartment on the ground floor. All apartments have a TV, free Internet and fresh drinking water.
